Wondering what the most secure host might be? Many hosting providers keep springing up trying to claim that title. As an experienced hosting reviewer and website owner, I had to carry out a real-time performance test on FlokiNET to determine if they are title contenders.

In the rest of this piece, I’ll share my opinions on FlokiNET’s pricing, overall features, performance, ease of use, and support… so you can make a data-backed decision when you choose to sign up. Let’s dig deep!

Established in 2012, FlokiNET isn’t necessarily new to hosting, they have been providing web hosting services across Europe since then, but mostly focus on organizations that see themselves as easy targets for freedom of speech violations. They are known to be a safe haven for freedom of speech, free press, and whistle-blower projects with data centers in Iceland, Finland, and Romania.

FlokiNET offers shared, VPS, and dedicated hosting plans. They also offer extra services which include web design, penetration testing, TeamSpeak, secure VoIP, and operational security consulting.

FlokiNET does not have a BBB rating (only applicable to US-based companies) but is rated 3.1/5 on Trustpilot compiled from 11 reviews.

FlokiNET offers shared, VPS, and dedicated hosting packages. They also offer a website builder, and a unique set of pro services – web Pentesting & consulting, Tor network, DDoS mitigation, and SLA management to ensure maximum anonymity and privacy.

FlokiNET does not offer money-back guarantees, refunds, or free trials, so you have to be sure of the package you want before committing to a purchase.

When you are sure of the package you want, payment can be facilitated through a variety of channels, notably Dash, Litecoin, Bitcoin, Perfect money, Western union, OK pay, MoneyGram, PayPal, PaySafeCard, cash by post, and bank transfer.

Shared Hosting

FlokiNET offers a wide range of shared hosting plans but I recommend you opt for the ‘Romania III’ plan, you’ll get 25GB of SSD web storage, unmetered bandwidth, DDoS protection, and you can host unlimited websites making it the best value for money.

VPS Hosting

With many options to choose from, I’d personally recommend FlokiNET’s ‘Romania VPS III’ plan  if you’re just getting started with VPS hosting. Starting at $27.49/month, you’ll get 90 GB SSD storage, unlimited bandwidth and unlimited sites you can host.

Dedicated Hosting

I personally recommend FlokiNET’s  HP Proliant DL 360 Gen10 10xNVMe SSD plan if you’re just getting started with dedicated hosting. It comes packed with 960 SSD storage, 32 TB committed bandwidth, and 96 GB RAM all for $485.28 per month.

FlokiNET comes loaded with a lot of great features, but its unique selling point has to be its ability to offer highly protected, anonymous, and incorruptible hosting plans to a unique set of clients.

You’ll find cheaper hosting offers out there, but none with the unique set of tools and features, dedicated to maintaining anonymity and protection for its customers.

Performance

The performance of a host is a critical factor you need to consider when choosing one, it is the thin line between gaining or losing customers. 3 key performance metrics are important for a website, speed, uptime, and average load times.

• Speed measures how quickly the servers respond to the queries of a visitor on your website. The faster the speed, the longer the visitor might stay on the website.
• Uptime measures the time your host’s servers remain online. 99.9% uptime has become an industry standard and anything short of that is unacceptable.
• Load time measures how fast your website gets up to speed. The quicker the pages load and function, the better. Google recommends a fully loaded time of 1-2 seconds for the best results.

I’ve saved you the stress by carrying out a performance test on GTMetrix. I ran FlokiNET’s domain through the tool, but to get better results, it is advisable to test a website hosted by the provider you want to engage.

Despite my best efforts, I couldn’t find any hosted websites on FlokiNET which is a testament to their famed anonymity and privacy.

My test yielded these results:

FlokiNET.is had a slow response time of 928 ms and an overall performance rating of 63% on GTMetrix which if we’re being honest, isn’t impressive.

The shortcomings in the overall performance and response time might be a result of the web design and web structure. There’s still room for improvement especially for the unique hosting plans they offer.

I tried several times to activate the chat box but it kept referring me to a ticket. It might be a one-off,  but it’s safe to say Live chat Is not a reliable support channel on FlokiNET.

Phone support

FlokiNET offers phone support via its contact lines. You can either call or have an encrypted conversation with them on Signal and Threema.

FlokiNET offers support via email with a quick response time

FlokiNET also offers support via tickets, you get to fill in your name, email, phone number, and the issue you want to resolve. An agent will get assigned to your case so a solution can be found.

Knowledgebase

FlokiNET has a rich knowledgebase equipped with a built-in search engine to give you a library of answers to whatever questions you may have about their packages, FAQs, and getting-started guides.

User-Friendliness

You might be wondering how difficult it is to get started with FlokiNET. Is it easy to set up basic tools and apps? Let’s find out!

Registration

Getting started on FlokiNET is easy, all you need to do is pay for one of their plans, fill in the details and you’re in.

Let’s use one of their shared plans as an example. First click on ‘Hosting’ on the top part of the homepage and select ‘ shared hosting’. This takes you to the different shared hosting plans, then you click ‘Order now’.

Next, you get to choose if you want to register a new domain, transfer your domain from another registrar, or use your existing domain and update nameservers. Fill in the domain name and click ‘continue’.

* FlokiNET does not offer free domain names, so registering a new one will cost you a small fee.

You then get directed to a page where you can configure the plan you’re about to purchase, from your billing cycle to the server location. They offer monthly, quarterly, semi-annual, biennial, and triennial billing cycles.

Click ‘continue’ which will direct you to the checkout page.

Once there, you’ll be asked to create an account and choose your preferred payment method. Confirm your details in an email sent to you and your account is ready!

FlokiNET Control Panel

Now that you’re an account holder, FlokiNET gives you access to your dashboard, and from there you can manage your account easily.  The cPanel gives you control over your domains, databases, and other relevant functions.

Installing WordPress on FlokiNET

Although FlokiNET doesn’t offer WordPress hosting plans, it uses Softaculous to automatically install WordPress and other apps and plugins you want.

Add an email account with Flokinet

FlokiNET does not give the option to add email to your domain on the cPanel, maybe it is reserved for paying customers.

Conclusion: Do We Recommend FlokiNET?

FlokiNET is definitely not the biggest or best host out there, largely because of its business model and unique clients. It was created to be a safe haven for freedom of speech, free press, and whistle-blower projects. I wasn’t impressed with its lack of WordPress, Cloud, and Reseller hosting plans, but I guess it’s because they are big on anonymity and secrecy.

So do I recommend them to you? It all depends on what you’re trying to achieve. If you want a host that guarantees your security while you freely express yourself, then FlokiNET is a good fit. If not, you’re better off checking other alternatives that’ll perfectly fit your business model.
